Meet McKenzie Milburn - January Mom of the Month

"McKenzie always shows up with a smile on her face. She pushes herself through every workout and serves as motivation and inspiration to make every move count." - Stacey Huffines, Fit4Mom Temple member

Born and raised in Georgetown, TX.

I graduated from St. Edward's University in Austin with an Elementary Education degree.

When did you join Fit4Mom Temple?

April 2016

Tell us about your family

I'll start with my husband. We are in Temple because of him. He completed medical school at Scott and White here in Temple and is now a fourth-year urology resident. He has another year and a half before he has completed residency and practicing urology on his own. We have two kids – Evan (4) and Nora (2). They play hard, love hard and fight hard ;) We also have a cocker spaniel named Lucy.

I taught Kindergarten before having babies and now stay at home with them.

What was your childhood ambition?

My childhood ambition was to become a teacher (which I did)!

What does motherhood mean to you?

Motherhood is the greatest thing and the hardest thing. It has taught me so much about patience, responsibility and unselfishness.

What is the furthest you have been from home?

Probably on our honeymoon in St. Lucia.

More about McKenzie

"McKenzie is everything an instructor likes about a client. Hardworking, motivated, and positive. She has definitely helped me to become a better instructor with her demeanor alone. Everyone needs a McKenzie in their class!" - Ashley Heinrich, Fit4Mom Temple SS/SB Instructor

What is your proudest moment?

I'd say my proudest moments have to be seeing my babies for the first time. There's just nothing that compares :)

What are 3 of your favorite things (besides your family!)?

1) I LOVE shopping. Whether it's online or in person, I love it all! I really love buying gifts.

2) Exercise. I love the way it makes me feel. I've found it's the best stress reliever since having kids.

3) Cooking/Baking. I try to limit the baking because it doesn't really align with my weight loss goals, but I do enjoy it. Cooking is something that I love to do and can see myself doing more of as the kids get older.

What is something surprising/unique about you?

My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have the same birthday. Same year and everything. We were even at the same hospital!

What would your spouse say about you?

My husband always tells me I'm a good listener. He talks a lot, so it works out well ;)

How has Stroller Strides impacted you?

Stroller Strides has changed my life in many ways. I wish I knew about it when my kids were infants. It has given me a wonderful excuse to get out of the house every morning and to start my day off with a great work out. I feel like it has made me a better mom by taking more time for myself. It has also given me and my kiddos a great community of friends that I appreciate so much.

What is your favorite exercise?

I love any high intensity cardio!

What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape?

My advice would be that showing up is the hardest part. If you're looking to make a change, add it to your calendar and make it a routine. I find if I have set workout times I actually accomplish them instead of just saying "I'll work out at some point today"
